
Captain Leonard Destin Park
PROJECT OVERVIEW
This 3.42 +/-acre park provides public space for water activities, play, education, gathering and passive recreation use. Design considerations included accessibility, the preservation of views from Calhoun Avenue, protection of the existing heron rookery on site, celebration of the history of the site, parking, and circulation that encourages exploration of the park. Features of the park include handicapped beach access; a splash pad; a new dock; shoreline kayak launch; picnic pavilions; educational interpretation and a playground.
